Harry Kane has warned Tottenham he is in control of his destiny after accelerating attempts to force a sensational move to Manchester City.

Speaking publicly for the first time since it emerged he had informed chairman Daniel Levy of his intention to quit Spurs, Kane reinforced his desire to leave.

The striker began the next phase of his exit strategy in an interview with his former international coach Gary Neville, telling the Sky Sports pundit he is ready to walk away.

‘For sure, it’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman,’ explained Kane.

‘I hope that we can have that conversation. I’m sure that he’ll want to set out the plan of where he sees it, but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career at this moment in time.’

City have emerged as the leading contenders to sign the 27-year-old and Sportsmail understands the Etihad is Kane’s preferred destination.

Despite Spurs insisting that Kane is not for sale, a £150million offer could be too good for Levy to resist — though the club are adamant they would not consider selling to a rival Premier League club.

Tottenham believe they are in a strong position given the striker has three years left on his current deal.

‘(Levy) has been fair with me,’ said Kane on Neville’s YouTube channel The Overlap.

‘He’s never kind of just held me to a contract and said, «No, I’ve paid you that. You’re going to stay on that».

‘I’m not sure how that conversation will go if I’m honest. I mean he might want to sell me. He might be thinking, «If I could get £100million for you, then why not?»

‘I’m not going to be worth that for the next two or three years. I think a crossroads is coming in my career. I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club. I’ve said before, I’d never say that I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career. I’d never say that I would leave Spurs.’

When questioned specifically about how he thinks the difficult conversation with Levy will go this summer, Kane was quick to praise the chairman and insists they have always enjoyed a positive relationship.

‘I hope we have a good enough relationship,’ he adds, in the interview filmed last week. ‘I’ve given the club… well, I’ve been there 16 years of my life. So, I hope that we can have a good, honest conversation and see where we are at in that aspect.’

A move to City represents Kane’s best opportunity of winning the silverware he craves, with a virtual guarantee of Champions League football every season.

The England captain is understood to have prioritised a move to join Pep Guardiola, though Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested.

Kane added: ‘I don’t want to have come to the end of my career and have any regrets.

‘So, I want to be the best that I can be. I want to be playing in the biggest games, seranganbalik.com the biggest moments.

‘I’m there watching the Champions League, watching the English teams doing amazing. They are the games that I want to be involved in.

‘My profession is about winning. I want to win. So, for sure it grates at me that we haven’t done that.’

He then added: ‘I still feel like I’ve still got almost another career to play. I’ve got another seven or eight years. I’m not rushing anything. I’m not desperate to do anything. I feel like for sure I’ve got so much more to give. I feel like I can be even better than what I’ve been. I can produce better numbers than what I’m producing at the moment.

‘I’m not afraid to say that I want to be the best. I’m not afraid to say I want to try get on the level that Ronaldo and Messi got to. You know, that’s my ultimate goal. That’s my aim, to be winning trophies season in, season out. Scoring 50, 60, 70 goals season in, season out. That’s the standard I want to set myself.’

This season, Spurs dropped out of the race for the top four and are now scrambling for a European spot heading into the final day of the season.

As it stands they sit seventh, with a trip to fifth-placed Leicester on the final day of the season this weekend.

Should they finish in their current position, they will be rewarded with a spot in UEFA’s new Conference League competition.

Clearly, though, Kane is aiming to be playing regularly in the latter stages of the Champions League and it is unlikely Europe’s third-tier competition will suffice.
